Invitation to Join the School Board Advisory Committee on Educational Equity

Invitation to Join the School Board Advisory Committee on Educational Equity

Bethel School District is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable educational environment for all students. In alignment with Senate Bill 732, we are establishing a School Board Advisory Committee on Educational Equity. The District Equity Committee (DEC) will advise the school board and superintendent on matters impacting traditionally underrepresented and underserved student groups.

What will this committee be tasked with? This committee will share important insights on how policies impact equity in our schools, keep the board and superintendent updated on district-wide issues, and represent the experiences of underserved students. By addressing both challenges and successes, the committee will help shape effective ways to support every student.

What is the role of an advisory committee? Advisory committees play a vital role in school governance by offering diverse perspectives that inform decision-making processes. They serve as a bridge between the community and the school board, ensuring that policies and practices reflect the needs and aspirations of all stakeholders. By engaging with advisory committees, school boards and superintendents can make more informed decisions that promote student success and educational equity.
Who should serve: We are seeking a diverse group of individuals, including:
  • Parents and guardians: To represent family perspectives
  • Students: To share firsthand experiences and insights into school environment
  • Staff members: To provide professional insights into educational practices and policies
  • Community members: To offer broader community viewpoints
Commitment: Members will be expected to attend quarterly meetings and participate in discussions to advance our district’s equity goals.
