Apply to serve on the Bethel School Board!
Bethel residents interested in serving on the Board of Directors may apply to fill the vacant Position 2 one-year term until 5 p.m. on June 5.
When a position on the Board is vacated before the end of a term, the Board solicits applicants and appoints a community member by majority vote to serve until June 30, 2027, following the next regular school board election. The position will then be open for election.
To be eligible to serve on the Board, a person must:
- Be a registered voter in the Bethel School District
- Have resided within the district for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment
- Not be an employee of the district.
- Be available to attend board meetings on June 10 and June 24
Oregon law requires school board members to live within district boundaries and be registered voters because board members are elected representatives of the local community.
We encourage community members to apply, even if they do not have prior school board or governance experience. The district welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives who are committed to supporting students, staff, and the broader Bethel community. Training and support will be provided, and diverse lived experiences are valued in this work.
Community members with questions about eligibility requirements, district boundaries, or the application process may contact Bethel Board Secretary Jill Busby at 541-689-3280 or jill.busby@bethel.k12.or.us. Those interested in learning more about School Board service are encouraged to attend a Board meeting in person or online. Upcoming meeting dates, times, locations, and additional information can be found on the Bethel School Board webpage. Attending a meeting is optional and not required to be considered for the appointment.
Reasonable accommodations for the application and interview process will be provided upon request and as required in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Disabled persons may contact Remie Calalang, Assistant Superintendent, at (541) 689-3280 for additional information or assistance.
