APRIL 15, 2026 – NOTICE OF BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETING
The Bethel School District Budget Committee will hold a meeting to discuss the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be hosted from the District Office Boardroom located at 4640 Barger Drive, Eugene, Oregon, and will also be accessible virtually. The purpose of the meeting is to receive the budget message and hear comments from the public on the 2026-2027 proposed budget. 

Public comment will be taken in person, via Zoom, or in writing and will be limited to three minutes per speaker. To sign up for public comment via Zoom, please complete this form prior to the start of the meeting. Community members may also submit written comments via email to publiccomment@bethel.k12.or.us Budget Committee Members will have access to written public comments submitted by noon the day of the meeting. Information to join the meeting virtually will be available on the agenda posted on Bethel School District’s website.

A copy of the budget document may be inspected online on or after April 20, 2026. 

This is a public meeting where deliberation of the Budget Committee will take place. Any person may join the meeting and discuss the proposed programs with the Budget Committee. 

There are currently no open positions on the District’s Budget Committee. 

January 28, 2026: Board reviews Draft 2026-2027 Budget Calendar

February 25, 2026: Board adopts 2026-2027 Budget Calendar

April 1, 2026: All budget materials due from buildings and departments/programs

April 20, 2026: Submit notice to Register Guard

April 26, 2026: Publish first notice of Budget Committee Meeting (5 to 30 days prior to meeting)

MAY 11, 2026: Budget Committee Proposed Budget Document/Budget Message presented to the Budget Committee – District Office, 6:30 p.m.

MAY 13, 2026: Budget Committee Meeting at District Office, 5:30 p.m. Approval of proposed budget

JUNE 8, 2026: Publication of NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING, FINANCIAL SUMMARY, and FUND SUMMARIES (not more than 25 nor less than 5 days prior)

JUNE 24, 2026: Public Hearing on Budget – Enact resolutions adopting the budget, making the appropriations, and declaring the tax levy

Budget Committee

The budget committee is an advisory group established by statute. The committee is made up of the governing body of the local government and an equal number of appointed members. The appointed members must be electors of the local government. They cannot be employees, officers, or agents of the local government. They are appointed for staggered, three-year terms. No member of the budget committee can receive compensation for serving on the committee.

The budget committee has several purposes. It conducts public meetings to hear the budget message and review the budget proposed by the Budget Officer. One of its most important purposes is to listen to comments and questions from interested citizens. It can revise the proposed budget to reflect changes it wants to make in the local government’s fiscal policy. It does not have the authority to negotiate employee salaries. The committee approves the budget, approves the property tax rate, and approves the dollar amount for debt service for the payment of bond principal and interest.

Local budget law requires that the budget committee hold at least one meeting for the purpose of:

1. Receiving the budget message and budget document, and
2. Providing members of the public with an opportunity to ask questions about and comment on the budget.

The District must give prior public notice of the meeting(s) held for these two purposes. A copy of this notice is contained within the appendix of this document.
